So, Here's The Deal
Hello, and welcome. I've always been a story teller and I decided to start sharing my stories with the world. I had some ideas about the content for this blog. I thought maybe I'd tell art stories (I'm an artist). I thought about telling stories about my family, especially my grandson, who is five going on forty. I am also currently working in a restaurant that is nothing like any restaurant I've worked in, and I have over thirty years experience. I also have some stories from my past. I really don't think I have any lack of material. I'm thinking that things will come together as I post on here.
I did want to mention some of the things that have happened to me at my job. We recently moved to Western Tennessee. I scoped out the place before I started and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Well, I was way off. It's a chain place, and I've worked for them as a waiter in two other cities. I thought I knew what to expect. I didn't realize that the clientele were such horrible tippers. It's nothing for me to get stiffed (not getting any money from your customer) several times a shift. I used get stiffed no more than once every week or so. I make money here, but it's on sheer volume. My new restaurant also has a bad reputation. I knew this, and I was supposed to be helping them get past that. I work with fewer coworkers on a shift than I would have thought. Since there is literally no one on their lunch hour coming in for lunch it makes sense. It also slows the pace. No one is really in a hurry (no one is foolish enough to come in on their lunch hour) which is a good thing since the kitchen typically takes nearly a half hour to get food out. I have no idea why that is. I just have to take a breath and realize that in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter.
I see things that no one else (apparently)notices). One of my coworkers told another that his family wasn't the brightest apples in the bunch. I had never heard so many sayings mashed together in one sentence. Another asked me to pick up a shift for her. That wasn't gonna happen. I get four days off a week and I still don't think it's enough. Anyway she asked me and I told her I had a previous engagement that day. She replied "Engagement?? I thought you told me you were married.". That made my head hurt. I feel like there's more to tell, but that's what I have now. There's gonna be more. I just wanted to post this to get the ball rolling.
